The Historic Mile Walk covers the buildings along St George's street (the main road) from the Railway Station to the East Dockyard Gates, a distance of about one mile.This walk captures the history of Simon’s Town from 1741 when the Dutch East India Company decided that Simon’s Bay would be their winter anchorage, through the period 1813 to 1957 when Simon’s Town was the home of the Royal Navy in the South Atlantic, and from 1957 to the present day, during which the town has been the home of The South African Navy. As can be seen from the photographs opposite, little has changed in the last 100 years
